| General Cosmetic Treatment Questions: |
|
Is the surgery painful?
Eyelid or Blepharoplasty surgery is not painful. You will look like you should be in pain, but your discomfort will be mostly due to post-surgical swelling. For this reason, it is very important that you place cold packs (ice) on your lids for the first 48 hours after surgery.
How bruised will I be?
Bruising and swelling is variable depending upon the individual. Eighty percent (80 %) of your swelling should be gone at the end of one week. If you bruise easily, you can expect the same or greater as a result of your surgery. Expect most bruising to be gone by the end of the second week.
Will I have patches over my eyes following my surgery?
You will not have patches, but you must put cold packs (ice) on your eyes for the first 48 hours.. more on than off.
Must I wear sunglasses to protect my eyes following my surgery?
Staying out of the sun is beneficial for us all, but not necessary. More than likely, you will want your sunglasses to cover any bruising when you venture out to the grocery store.
When may I return to work?
Much of that decision relies on you and your line of work. Depending on the surgery and the requirements of applying ice, you may decide to remain home for a couple of days to ensure that you are following post-surgical instructions. If your work mostly involves sitting at a desk, you will not be unable to work. Are you in the public eye? You may decide to wait until most of the bruising and swelling has dissapated. Are you able to wear tinted glasses at work? That may speed your decision to return to work. Taking it easy can help speed your healing.
Regarding cosmetic surgery- How do I know if it's "bad" enough for surgery?
There is no right answer, the decision to have cosmetic surgery is a very personal and private decision. Only you, the patient, knows when it is time to consider surgery. Take the time to look in the mirror and gently elevate your lid. This will give you an idea of what surgery can accomplish for you. Selecting a experienced, skilled surgeon is your most important decision. A competent Oculoplastic surgeon will only refresh your appearance, not provide you with a "deer in the headlight" result.

| BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatment Questions: |
|
What exactly is BOTOX® Cosmetic?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is a nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people 18 to 65 years of age. During treatment, very low doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles that cause those stubborn lines. The treatment is usually done in about 10 minutes, and no recovery time is needed. Within days, you may see an improvement that can last up to 4 months. Results may vary.
How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?
Those moderate to severe frown lines between your brows form over time as the result of muscle activity. BOTOX® Cosmetic is injected directly into the muscles between your brows. It works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles; this reduces the activity of the muscles that cause those persistent lines to form.
When will I see results from a BOTOX® Cosmetic treatment?
Within days, you may see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows. Lines continue to improve for up to a month, and results can last for up to 4 months.
How long does BOTOX® Cosmetic last?
Results from treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic can last for up to 4 months. If you discontinue treatment, the frown lines between your brows gradually will look like they did before treatment.
Is treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic painful?
Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injecting, your physician may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. The entire procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. Many people are in and out of the office without downtime following treatment.
Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?
Although the results are visible, a treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you "had work done". The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is simply reduced, so you can still frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.
What will happen to the frown lines between my brows
if I choose not to continue treatments?
If you do not continue treatments, the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows will gradually look like they did before treatment.

| JUVÉDERM™ Treatment Questions: |
|
What is JUVÉDERM™?
Juvéderm™ is the only Hyaluronic acid filler with FDA approval to last up to one year for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds (such as nasolabial folds.) Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in all mammals that helps to hydrate and add volume to your skin. In addition to its use as an aesthetic treatment, hyaluronic acid has also been used for more than 20 years for injection into arthritic joints to aid movement as well as for eye surgeries and wound repair.
What does JUVÉDERM™ do?
Juvéderm™ injectable gel temporarily adds volume to facial tissue and restores a smoother appearance to the face.
How is JUVÉDERM™ injectable gel used in treatment?
Juvéderm™ injectable gel is eased into the skin using a fine needle to temporarily fill in and augment the treatment area and smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as "smile lines" or "parentheses" (nasolabial folds) and "marionette lines" (oral commissures). Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing.
Is treatment with JUVÉDERM™ injectable gel painful?
Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection. The gel consistency of Juvéderm™ allows it to be administered easily and smoothly. Juvéderm™ is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort. You may choose to have an anesthetic cream applied to the treatment area to further minimize discomfort.
How long does treatment usually take?
The injection process takes only about 15 minutes.
Does the correction last forever?
No. Correction is temporary; therefore, touch-up injections as well as repeat injections are usually needed to maintain optimal corrections. One treatment could smooth your lines and wrinkles for six months up to 1 year.
Can people with different skin tones/colors be treated with JUVÉDERM™?
Yes. In fact, Juvéderm™ injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has proven its safety and effectiveness in persons of color. Studies with Juvéderm™ showed no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients of color.

ProFractional is a quick and comfortable laser procedure used for improving the overall appearance of the skin. It uses a laser microbeam to treat thousands of pinpoint areas of your skin. It is called “ProFractional” because only a fraction of the skin is directly treated with the laser, resulting in quicker healing time and minimal downtime.
Where is this laser available?
Dr. Baloh performs ProFractional treatment at Valley Eye Surgical Center in Bethlehem. A consultation is required prior to scheduling treatment.
What is the ProFractional procedure like?
The procedure normally takes 15-20 minutes depending on the condition and the size of the area treated. Popular areas for treatment are the face, neck, chest and hands. ProFractional is typically done in a series of 1 to 4 treatments, at 3 to 6 week intervals, depending on your needs. Immediately following the procedure you may experience a mild redness, resembling a light sunburn sensation. Complete healing takes only about 1 to 3 days, with most patients resuming their work activities within 1 to 2 days of treatment.
